The Semanext Pen is a reusable injection pen developed by Lupin. It is designed to administer Semaglutide, a synthetic form of parathyroid hormone (PTH), used to treat osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a condition characterised by weakened bones, which increases the risk of fractures. This device facilitates the subcutaneous injection of Semaglutide, promoting bone formation and strength.
It’s important to note that the Semanext Pen does not contain any medication itself. It must be used in conjunction with Semanext cartridges containing Semaglutide and Semanext Pen Needles.
The Semanext Pen is used to administer Semaglutide for the treatment of:
Osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk for fractures.
Primary or hypogonadal osteoporosis in men at high risk for fractures.
Glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis in men and women at high risk for fractures.
How Semanext Pen Works:
Semaglutide is administered using the Semanext Pen, which mimics the activity of the natural parathyroid hormone in the body. It stimulates osteoblast activity, the cells responsible for bone formation. This leads to increased bone mineral density and strength, reducing the risk of fractures associated with osteoporosis. Regular administration as prescribed can help effectively manage osteoporosis.
Interaction of Semanext Pen with other drugs:
While the Semanext Pen itself does not interact with other medications, the Semaglutide administered with it can interact with other medications. It’s crucial to inform your healthcare provider about all medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking. Some interactions to be aware of include:
Digoxin: Concurrent use may increase the risk of digitalis toxicity.
Loop diuretics: May enhance the risk of hypercalcemia.
Glucocorticoids: Long-term use may counteract the bone-forming effects of Semaglutide.
Storage conditions:
Store the Semanext Pen at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
Do not freeze the device or expose it to extreme temperatures.
Keep the device out of reach of children and pets.
Use a new needle for each injection to maintain hygiene and prevent infections.
Use ONLY Semanext injections with this device.
Dispose of used needles safely in a sharps container.
